What is clutter

 

Some dictionary definitions:

  • A lot of things in an untidy state, especially things that are not useful or necessary (Collins online dictionary)

  • A lot of objects in a state of being untidy (Cambridge Dictionary)

  • Confusion

  • Disorder

  • Untidiness

  • A study by Russell Bell, researcher at University of Minnesota found that people equate stuff with happiness, and more stuff with more happiness. But the people in this study found that clutter actually caused diminished focus and made them feel out of control.

  • UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) psychologist Jeanne Arnold found that clutter increases production of stress hormones which can lead to heart problems, skin conditions, weight gain;

  • My experience as a Naturopath has taught me that a build-up of toxic waste (or “clutter”) in the liver, blood, brain, nervous or digestive systems can cause all of the above as well as insomnia, lowered immune function, learning and memory difficulties, chronic tiredness, mood problems and more.
